Middle childhood begins at the age of six and ends at the age of eleven, or that period of development prior to early adolescence. It is in this period that your child learns to try doing certain activities independently like dressing themselves and tying their shoe lace. This period is also the beginning of school years that brings your child in close and regular contact with the world outside. And because of this, their mental, physical, and social skills develop rapidly. At the age of 9, your child may begin acquiring more friends as their interest with other people grows. You might not notice it, but your child’s characteristics or personality may start to change as they prepare to enter puberty.
Early years of education begins at the age of 6. It is also in this period that your child begins to grow independent from you and the family. The sense of right and wrong is now much stronger as they learn to make small decisions on their own. Their awareness for the future also begins at this age and understanding about a person’s place in this world starts to grow and develop. Your child may also put more attention on teamwork and friendship as they learn to mingle with other children. The desire to be liked and be accepted by their peers and their family also intensifies as they enter this age. As for cognitive changes, they tend to focus less on themselves and become more concern with other people. Also, their ability to describe and retell experiences and express thoughts and feelings greatly develops at this age.
